The Space Between Us
A downloadable game for Windows
The new year has only just begun, and you're already sick in bed.
But don’t worry - your colleague has taken it upon himself to look after you.
You didn’t even have to ask.
How considerate of him... right?

This demo includes:
❆ ~17k words
❆ ~ 60 minutes per run
❆ 12 CGs
❆ This Visual Novel features a late-branching story with 6 endings.
TyranoBuilder - Skipping Text:
During your first playthrough, text skipping is not available.
After completing the game once, skipping will be unlocked and you can fast-forward through previously read text.
Alternatively, you can enable "Permanent Skip" in the game settings.
Guide, see Devlog.
Nevertheless, a small note on how the endings are determined:
Decisions earn points for three variables:
Rejection: Reject Stanley or be mean.
Affection: When Elsie is favourable towards Stanley/companionship.
Independence: If Elsie emphasises her independence or does not allow herself to be lulled into false security.

⚠︎ Unhealthy relationship dynamics
⚠︎ Potentially distressing content
⚠︎ Screen Shake / minor jumpscares

haven’t finished it but already loved it:) really cant wait for more chat!!💗
Thanks a lot! :)
I have planned to finish the game by the beginning of January 2026.
Let's see if I can make it ^^"
I really liked this demo so far. Stanley not doing anything dramatic but slowly making himself apart of Elise's life makes him feel like less of a danger to her and just some nice guy.
Thanks for playing the demo :)
Yeah, I wanted to make sure to keep his actions subtle but manipulative.
I don't think Elsie would be stupid enough to let more aggressive things slide ^^"...
Great demo! I thoroughly enjoyed my short playthrough of it and I can't wait for more to come in the future. I'm interested to see what the deal is with Stanley and his motives... he seems to be interested in MC but he's also very secretive.
We got a small interaction segment in the game, so I was wondering if you were going to implement more interactable mechanics in the future development? It'd be super cool, no pressure though!
Also just this last thing I noticed while playing, when transitioning through the scenes (eg: day to night) it lags a bit behind, or rather there's an awkward pause that lasts a little too long before the next scene or dialogue plays out. It's not game breaking or anything like that, but it was a bit slow to get through.
Thanks so much for your feedback!
I'm glad you enjoyed the interaction segment.
I wanted to avoid the plot drifting too much off and the tension diminishing.
But I plan to expand it for the full version of the game :)
The little pauses between scenes were actually intentional — I wanted to give the sense that some time has passed and to let the pacing breathe a bit.
But I totally get what you mean; There is probably a lack of visual or auditory cues so that it doesn't look like lag.
Thanks for pointing it out!
i cant anymore im giving in to playing this unfinished version ASAP it was love and the urge to marry this suspicious glasses caring coworkerwwWILL UPDATE THIS COMMENT
Latest edit: (just finished the full game!! And got all ends, thanks for the guide!) sorry i couldnt make a new comment, so i had to do this.
first things first, Stanley was an insufferable moron, the annoying kind of attention-seeking, (not so secret) admirer yan (or just character in general) to get a rise out of you.
the push-pull dynamic drove me crazy, felt bad for Elsie lol. the rest of thoughts (mostly rant) end 2… overall was kinda depressing with issues werent really resolved like how reality goes oh well
end 2 alt where she and end 3 was, i think would be good to add with some continuation for a proper resolution, might even be good to switch back into his pov towards the end (like at the start).. though maybe was just me so he could redeem himself or something.
best end was the fifth end def, loved how Elsie got her revenge and took the initiative (once again) there.
sixth end um, was whatever the fuck that was outright disturbing……
i. struggled to get the fourth end, so I’ll be waiting for a guide. edit: end 4 was basically if things went his way, kinda peak, in a way that would earn him an uppercut to his jaw.
anyway absolutely loved the short built enough story for a solid realistic representation of toxic dynamics there, interesting how Stanley’s mysterious annoyingly pushy behaviours was a desperate front to approach Elsie, and Elsie obv was cool, put her own foot and even perceptive of his motives she was too good for him
spoilers!
well it couldve been worse, surprisingly he didnt resort to anything else quite dangerous (i hope), threaten her life or anything, felt bad for the next person who gotta/might deal with him and his baggage thospoilers!
gave him a piece of her mind rightfully so, was a bitt of a let down my man literally booked it and ghosted her👎👎 right to the bitter end frustrating and left her with the remnants of his gamesfound missed name dialogue in “Come on, let me take your temperature.” (Stanley) and “Great~ Then I’ll order pizza, and you pick a movie.” (Elsie)
demo comment: weoeowoeweeh what a creep right off the bad to know all the right ways to take care of his colleague, exactly what the doctor ordered eh. very curious on many things but especially how he was different before, too, like what prompted this change and the fixation that came with it i wonder. i was expecting being drugged or kidnapped but that wasnt in the warning (yet probs lol) so it just left you with this hanging dread and missing phone didnt help whatsoever. literally stuck with this guy, at least there wasnt any snowstorm to keep them cooped up together for the next few days yeah..
anyways, i found some missed/misplaced narration format;
tyranobuilder was kinda rocky in the skipping feature though like even encountering the unread script and the config of unread text skip being off, it still them skipped over so just a heads up for anyone utilising it.
Thank you for your kind feedback :)
The snowstorm would have been a good idea!
I didn't even consider that.
I think Stanley would have loved a situation like this xD...
However, I can already say that there won't be one.
At first glance, I don't see any formatting errors or incorrect text placement.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to take a closer look until next week.
I noticed the issue with the skip function afterward as well.
Text is only marked as "read" once you've completed an ending and returned to the main menu.
After that, you can skip text you have already read, even when loading a save file.
I’ve tried — and am still trying — to fix it.
But maybe it's actually a core function of the engine, I’m not sure.
You can only set it to "skip all text" in the Config Menu.
I understand that this can be annoying :/
I’m seriously considering switching to another engine for larger projects.
Which is a shame, because I actually like TyranoBuilder.
But there’s just too little support for it in the English-speaking community :(
No worries, i had a lotta fun!
That was a relief! (hope there won’t be worse haha or will there?)
That’s okay!
Actually it was like a common feature atp since I’ve seen other players playing other games, and I myself had played a different one made in this engine, it was that moody you can’t really help it. Sometimes it weirdly worked to avoid skipping but then it skimmed past over the other texts haha.
Luckily, this one was particularly not much of a problem despite the shortcomings of the engine, plus it was a quick read too, i think it would be fine to keep sticking to it as long as the projects are short or linear yeah.
